About the Opportunity:
Our client is looking for an effective Senior Accounting Manager who will lead a team of accounting professionals and will be responsible for general and technical accounting in a variety of areas including, but not limited to clinical trials, general accruals, leases, contingent consideration, cash, prepaids, PP&E, debt, and other areas of technical accounting and SOX compliance of their company. This role coordinates schedules for SEC filings and SOX requirements, researches and writes technical accounting memos, and helps oversee accounting professionals.
  • Hands-on responsibility for day-to-day accounting operations and supervision of staff positions
  • Ensure that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP
  • Review monthly/quarterly account reconciliations, journal entries, and other documents to ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Responsible for consolidation of global subsidiary and related intercompany transactions
  • Research areas of complex accounting and compliance matters
  • Assist the Senior Director, Accounting with the assessment of technical accounting matters through preparation of white papers
  • Serves as the main contact for the Company’s external SOX consultants and external auditors including related activities
  • Other duties to support the CFO and Senior Director, Accounting, as needed.
  • Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to team members / supporting employees.  Provides guidance and support to team members / employees.  Occasionally interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning functional area.  Requires the ability to effectively influence others and manage sensitive situations.
  • Responsible for compliance with quality system procedures and all regulatory requirements.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience including at least 5 years of successful leadership experience and a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA license and “big four” public accounting experience at manager level and above preferred
  • Public company and SOX-compliant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with previous exposure to multinational companies is desired.
  • Experience and ability to research technical accounting matters and assist the Senior Director, Accounting with the assessment of technical accounting matters through preparation of white papers.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting, required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • History of successfully leading a team of accounting professionals.
  • Knowledge and awareness span all aspects of the specific functional area.  Enhances understanding and knowledge of how functional objectives support corporate objectives.
  • Must be skilled at managing a significant workload and obtaining positive results, taking on additional responsibility and managing priorities as needed.
