About the Opportunity:
Our client is looking for an Senior Accounting Manager that will join their growing North America Controllership team which will soon incorporate the accounting for European operations. As one of the leaders of the North America Controllership team, the ideal candidate will help lead and support the oversight of process improvements and a wide range of functional and management initiatives. In this role, the Senior Accounting Manager will work to provide day-to-day management and support over general ledger accounting, procure to pay (PTP), revenue to receivables (RTR), fixed assets, payroll, travel and expense, and other operational and accounting needs of US, Canada, and European operations. The Senior Accounting Manager will have the following primary areas of focus:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or co-lead lead the strategy development and execution of the financial close for the US, Canada, and European operations.
  • Work with the North America Controller to develop a monthly and quarterly reporting package for executive-level consumption.
  • Ensure that all accounting processes under the North America Controllership umbrella comply with US GAAP, the company’s accounting policy and, where applicable, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or co-lead the company’s year one implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) for all operational accounting processes.
  • Lead or co-lead the operationalization of the accounting for new customer agreements, vendor agreements, and non-standard transactions.
  • Be a business partner to business operations (procurement, fleet operations, human resources, legal, etc.) and proactively seek to identify opportunities to improve/streamline business operations and address potential gaps in internal controls.
  • Assist the North America Controller to continuously evaluate existing operational accounting policies and, where necessary, propose updates and/or improvements.
  • Periodically develop and instruct technical accounting trainings and other initiatives that will contribute to creating a high performing accounting team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience. At least 4-5 of those years must be in public accounting (e.g., Big 4).
  • Active CPA license.
  • Strong knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Strong internal controls (SOX) knowledge and experience. Specifically, design and operation of internal controls, and identification and remediation of control gaps.
  • Strong leadership skills. In particular, candidate must have a “lead by example” mentality and a hands-on coaching style.
  • Strong ability to anticipate issues (including questions from superiors) and offer thought-out potential solutions.
  • Detail oriented, analytical thinker who also understands the big picture and can identify and proactively act on issues before they become significant problems.
  • Solid understanding of financial processes and financial systems; adept at implementing initiatives to improve efficiency.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Public (SEC) company experience (directly or indirectly as an auditor) highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with NetSuite system a plus.
